ARTKids Color Mixing Practice Sheet

DARK TO LIGHT NEUTRALS

RED TO YELLOW

YELLOW TO BLUE

BLUE TO RED

DIRECTIONS
  • Blend the neutral colors to show the value or intensity from dark to light.
*TIP - if using watercolor paints, use water to dilute and allow the white of the background to show through instead of adding white.

  • Paint in secondary and intermediate (tertiary) colors by mixing the two primaries.

  • Be sure to use a neutral primary color when you begin, one that has no undertone of another primary in it. Example: neutral red, not red-violet, not red-orange.

  • Be careful not to overlap colors, or you will not have a pure color example.
