If you reach for it first every day, or dream of escaping in it, I have accomplished my mission.

Michelle Cousineau Spencer grew up in Maine and attended Maine schools, majoring in English and French in college.  In addition to this education, she always studied art "on the side for fun," in a variety of media.  Her education in clay began when she moved to North Carolina in 1998. Julianna Foy was her first instructor.  Following that class, she studied with Hiroshi Sueyoshi and Don Johns and attended at least sixteen workshops with a variety of well-known potters.  Since then, she has continued to develop her own unique personal style and has won some awards in local and regional juried shows including the Franklin Square Gallery Fourth of July Show in Southport, NC, and the Azalea Festival Spring Show in Wilmington, NC.

On a one acre lot in Southport, Michelle maintains a beautiful organic vegetable garden composed of raised beds in concentric circles of stone.  Orchards, flowers, herbs, and a small energy-efficient home complete the picture for an interesting home studio visit.

Current galleries include Sunset River Marketplace in Calabash, NC, and at Lantana's in Southport, NC.
