Artist Profile for Ortrud Tyler

I paint primarily in watermedia and mixed media on paper or canvas. Creating a rich textured surface in strong colors is of primary concern to me. My subject matter is drawn from different sources -- i.e., the "Rock Pattern" and "Shaman" series. Using good design principles, I try to make a statement in my work that interests the viewer, inviting him or her to respond with their own feelings and emotions.

The work of Ortrud Tyler, an abstract/expressionist painter as well as a talented potter, is held in corporate and private collections in the US, Europe and Thailand. Her art has been published in Nita Leland’s Exploring Color (rev.ed.) and "Profiles" in Southwest Art Magazine. Her work has also been used in the television series Matlock and the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles.

Ortrud has been a guest artist/lecturer at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and conducted workshops in the region. A native of Germany, she resides with her husband in North Carolina. She is an artist member of the Watercolor Society of North Carolina, the Georgia Watercolor Society and the Associated Artists of Southport.
